Turning Over A New Leaf – New life of street sleepers

Turning Over A New Leaf – New life of street sleepers Lunar New Year is one of the most important festivals in Hong Kong, which implies the old is leaving and the new coming, It is a time for families to gather and celebrate the coming of a new year. However, have we ever thought about the street sleepers who are all alone?

Statistics from Census and Statistics Department show that there are around 1,270 registered street sleepers in Hong Kong, which has risen 62.8% from past five years, and 22% of them have lived in street over 10 years. In reality, due to self-esteem, high rent of private housing and flexibility issue, many homeless persons would rather stay in the street or 24-hour fast food shops and refuse to get any help from social workers. The Salvation Army Integrated Service for Street Sleepers offers help to nearly 400 street sleepers in Yau Tsim Mong district, helping them to look for accommodation, food and, most importantly, job opportunities so that they could rebuild their lives.

This new year, we sincerely invite you to give a gift of red packet to support our community care services, sharing your blessings with the people in need.
